Rettberg "From Bards to Blogs" and Blogs, Communities and Networks" Response

I found Plato's theories to be very interesting because I have never thought of writing in such a way.  From personal experience when I write something I feel a relief that I have gotten my thoughts down on paper and I no longer entertain the thoughts that brought them about which leaves me to ultimately forget what I have wrote.  Plato theories of : Writing will destroy memory, writing is unresponsive, and writing is divorced from the reader may have been relevant in his era but things have changed many generations later.  In today's world of blogging an author can be more in touch with his or her writings because comments can be added to get feedback.  Where this poses a problem is most people who respond are responding to the words on the page or the story itself not interacting with the author who wrote the story.  With the way we use the internet today we often look at it as author-less, we do not always check for reliability which causes even more problems because almost anyone who knows how to use a computer can post things on the internet for free without any barriers.  For example, Wikipedia is one of the most used resources on the internet today but on its homepage it's known as "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit."    How do we know what to rely on?  Is the internet the still the same reliable source we created it to be or should we govern it with stricter policies?
