Experience Design

Experience can be defined using many different words.  A particular instance of personally encountering or undergoing something or the totality of the cognitions given by perception; all that is perceived, understood, and remembered. 

It is important to understand that experiences are the foundation for all of our personal lives and I emphasis personal so much because every experience is different from person to person.  There are three parts to our experiences.  

• Attraction
• Engagement
• Conclusion

Attraction

We are first attracted to our cognitive, visual, or auditory matter.  Something gets our attention whether it's intentional or unintentional.  We experience needs, wants, and things that are just meant for us to experience.  

Engagement

Next we engage in our experiences.  We are able to establish that it is an experience because it is cognitively relevant to us and it is different than from our outside surroundings. 

Conclusion   

The conclusion provides a resolution through meaning, a story, or an activity.  Sometimes the experience for us may come to an end but the experience itself has no real end.  This would be an extension or prolonged experience. 

Experience design is a new field that is very complex and hard to explain.  We are learning to formally create experiences around us through different mediums.  

In the Experience Economy, H. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore created a spectrum for which we use to help us formally create this life engaging matter.

• Knowledge 
• Wisdom

These keys provide a shield from the surrounding activities and lock you in to a particular meaning, story, or activity.  What we get out of these keys differs from person to person based on past experiences.  

Experiences are crucial to our lives and how we understand to function in it.  We are continually learning new ways to be more creative and make our experiences better.
